Mt. Hood was developed originally by an early Oregon settler on his private land. It is an unicorporated community in the beautiful Hood River County, but it’s only a half hour east of Gresham, Oregon, and an hour east of Portland. It is close to the scenic Columbia River, the Pacific Northwest region’s largest river, which runs from Alberta, Canada, down through Washington, Oregon, and out into the Pacific Ocean.
There is an amazingly wide variety of recreational activities available for families in Mt. Hood for every season. If you are a winter outdoor enthusiast, you’ll find plenty of cross country skiiing opportunities, downhill skilling, thrilling snowboarding mountains, and snowshoeing trails to be within easy reach.
For the warmer months, you’ll find an abundance of trails for hiking and mountain biking that provide a healthy workout and breathtaking scenery. Don’t be surprised if you have the opportunity to see an abundance of wildlife in Mt. Hood, with plenty of deer and beautiful forest birds.
Are you a hunting or fishing fan? The hunting and the fishing are notoriously good in Mt. Hood. You will find it to be a memorable experience to fish for our plentiful trophy smallmouth bass, trout, and steelhead in our pristine natural setting. You’ll also find large and small game hunting, such as deer, elk, and other game.
If all of this access to nature does not provide enough of an adrenaline rush for you, then consider our other outdoor activities such as skateboarding at a skate park, or even skydiving above our beautiful forest to see it like few get to see it.
