Downhill Mountain Biking Resorts

do you really need a downhill bike for trails at resorts?
I want to go to bromont for mountain biking. when I looked at the pictures everyone had a down hill bike or at least a full suspension . I have a diamondback response comp, a hard tail with 120mm front suspension, and i dont really want to pay the 100 dollar a day downhill bike rental. are trails at resorts really that rough that you need a full suspension? are there any trails that any bike like my dads 300 dollar giant bolder could handle?
You dont “need” a full on downhill bike and whether or not you even need a full suspension rig will be based largely on your riding style and skill. Resorts have a huge variety of terrain to choose from so if you only want to ride the ‘blues’ and the ‘greens’, the beginner and novice, trails a hard tail will work out just fine and you’ll have a fun day riding. If you’re looking to send it off some 10 meter drops or you’re dying to hit the 35 foot road gap…. A full on dualie with a min of 180mm travel is required equipment and simply part of the cost of going big.
As for your old man’s boulder… he’ll be fine for a day here and there on the mountains easy and novice trails but if you guys start getting more serious into riding actual mountains, it’s well worth investing in the equipment but it adds up very quickly! A good FR or DH fork alone will run you upwards of $1000.
PS- Thanks to whomever posted this gem, I needed a good laugh…

….Spoken like a true poser who thinks ‘trekking’ is mountain biking. People dont spend $7000 on downhill bikes so they can ‘look’ hardcore. Particularly when you consider how few people ever get recognized in a fullface and goggles. If anything, you look tired at the end of nice dh run, not ‘hardcore’…
