Buying A Lightweight Bike Was A Good Decision
It was a life-altering decision to focus on buying mountain bike. The racing rider wants it for speed. The light weight contributes to that. It is also more fun for the recreational rider to have a light weight bike for riding uphill trails. The padded seat was important too.
Not everyone races along like a first place winner. Most riders are content to ride at a leisurely pace. If the weather is pleasant, not over 80 and not under 60, it makes for a perfect way to get in the cardio that a moderate exerciser needs. If the scenery is outstanding, it is like taking a mini-vacation in the middle of the week.
Although Jeana did appreciate the exercise factor, she rode mainly for recreational purposes. She needed light weight, a cushioned seat on her bike and some cool clothes. Today she wore pearl izumi shorts and a green sports bra. Armed with sunglasses and sun block, she was ready for the challenge of an uphill ride to the top of the hill.
On her first ride up this hill, she had viewed it as a mountain equal in height to Pike’s Peak out in Denver Colorado. It was actually on a moderate incline. But, though the weather wasn’t too hot, she felt sweat on her forehead under the bike helmet. Her hands were slipping on the handlebars by the time they stopped to rest.
For now the water in her bottle tasted cool. She knew later on it would be luke-warm or even hot. Still, it was preferable to no water at all. They rested under the tree for fifteen minutes and then moved on.
They both agreed that it was smart to buy these mountain bikes and donate their older, heavier ones to Salvation Army. Everytime they thought of it, they wondered why they had waited so long. This uphill ride would have been completely exhausting on the old bikes.
Now they had these fantastic, lightweight diamondback bikes. Attractive and comfortable, they were worth every penny they cost. Getting on their matching green bikes, wearing matching green helmets, they continued the ride.
The sounds along the way were of birds singing and little animals scattering up and down trees. The squirrels seemed to watch them as they rode by. Now they had almost reached the top of what they liked to call a mountain. It was a little joke between them since it was really just a rather high hill. Still, the view from the top was very pleasant. They sat under another shade tree, sipped half-warm water and talked about how soon they should eat the nutrition bars they had in their pockets.
