extreme downhill mountain biking videos
i want to start mountain biking?

so i’m into extreme sports, and i’ve been watching some videos lately of mountain biking downhill and free riding, and i’ve become extremely interested.
now i’ve been skateboarding for 6 years, grown tired of it, done deal.
so i want to take up mountain biking, things like this:

so i’m wondering what is it like to hit the learning curb for mountain biking?
would it be hard to adapt?
guestimation wise how demanding can it be on the wallet?
any tips or suggestions of a type of bike for a person on a tight budget?
any riding tips, gear tips?

all and any suggestions and answers will be greatly appreciated,
thankyou.

well if i were you to get used to it i would start off with single track trails(the most common) and then move to Downhill and freestyle mountain biking for the more extreme riding

well for any bike that is going to hold up of advanced riding even advanced single track will cost you at least 300

in bikes there are a few things you need to avoid when looking for a bike for trail riding
NO FREEWHEEL a free is an old style costing mechanism that by design is inherit to axles bending b/c of the amount of space between the bearings and frame if your wanting to do Extreme riding you will bend this in no time (i know them to bend by nothing more then hopping down a curb) you need to be looking for what is called a cassette hub this style hub came out in the 80′s and moves the bearing close to the dropouts adding way way more strength then a freewheel

NO SINGLE WALLED RIMS- single wall rims as the name suggest use only a singe wall rather then new Double walled rims, single wall rims are prone to bending as well b/c they don’t allow for a deep V shape to the rime and the alloys tend not to be as nice. for extreme riding you really need Double walled rims

for bikes if going to cost you

the bike i would most recommend is that is a low priced bike is

the regular hard rock is nice but the disk brakes really help if you want to ride in rain in mud

if you have a little more to spend

if you have over 1000 to spend they there are some really nice full suspenion bikes to look at but it did not sound like your budget was that high

and if you really are on a tight budget and you can look for a used bike online just be sure i have a cassette hub and double walled wheels
and here is the cheapest bike i would recommend, i have put this bike though hell and it held up well…

and if you want to get in to real downhill competition you will one day need a bike like this
