mountain bike rear pivots?
i brought my giant ac2 in for a tune up. the shop called me saying i need new rear pivots. they told me i need to order tham from a giant dealer.
So 1. How do i order them? Do i just say “i need new rear pivots for my giant ac2″
and 2. http://www.mountainbikerides.co.uk/images/fettle/pivot/pivot_locations.jpg
are all these going to have to be replaced?
3. About how much?
The pivots are just the bushing or bearing kit that fits your bike, that’s not uncommon and should be too expensive. It varies pretty wildly from one manufacturer to the next and depends on suspension design but I’d guess you can probably find a pivot kit for this bike in the $50-100 range. The kit will include replacement hardware for all the pivots so you really should change them all. Some designs, like the SC VPP, can get away with just changing out the lower pivots since the stresses arent equally distributed but that wouldnt be the case in this design.
All that said, get your bike back from whatever shop you have it at right away. No good or even respectable shop would ever call the customer and tell them they need to source their own parts. They’re either a shaddy shop or they’re just too lazy to call Giant and do their job, either way I wouldnt let them near my bikes.
