GT was once a major bike manufacturer. They lost some of its luster over the years are not as prevalent as they once were. The bike is now owned by the holding company Dorel who also owns Schwinn, Pacific, Cannondale, Mongoose, RoadMaster amongst others.

On the trails, GT is not seen as often as it once was. In the mid-90s, GT was the bike to own.

The bike you mentioned seems like a starter bike. Acer is very low end component. Hydraulic brakes are nice (I use them), but low end hydraulics can be trouble – maybe more trouble then they are worth. I have done no research on this bike, but if its around the $300 mark, I would give it a thumbs up – although will warn you the bike may not handle hard trails well. You should expect a beginner bike should not expect it to be a high end hardtail that will withstand a lot of abuse.
