Marzocchi Mountain Bike Forks
Mountain bike fork question?
I have 2011 Cannondale Trail SL3. If i were to get a 2011 Marzocchi 55 TST2 Air fork, would it work with my bike? This fork has 160mm of travel and the stock RST Deuce fork has 100mm. Would this be a problem? Also, would the 20mm axle be a problem with my rims/hubs? I believe my current axle is one of those small 9mm ones.

What if I were to get a new hub with that needs a 20mm axle. Would that work?
If you get the Marzi fork, you’ll have problems with your bike and wheels. As you figured out, the 20mm thru-axle on the Marzi won’t work with your 9mm QR hubs. So you’d need a new front wheel also if you were to get the Marzi fork. However, you’re also increasing the travel by 60mm (almost 2.5 inches). That will throw the geometry of the bike way off; the bike was designed with XC geometry in mind, and you’re putting an AM/FR fork on the front. There will be all sorts of problems with that.
Also, you can’t (as in, are not able to) use that fork with your bike. The Marzi fork has a tapered (1-1/8″ – 1-1/2″) steer tube, and your bike has a straight 1.5″ head tube. Before anything else, those dimensions have to equal each other. And you can’t change the dimensions on your frame.
