Maxxis Mountain Bike Tires

maxxis mountain bike tires
1.95 front and rear knobby tires for off-road?

i used to use 2.1 nevegal for off road and road on my mountain bike.
its heavy and roll slowly.
now, i’m using 1.95 maxxis ignitor. it roll very fast.
but is 1.95 ignitor grippy enough?
i ride all types of trail especially single track.

Yes, depending upon the compound and the profile. 1.95s are typical for manufacturers like Scott, since they tend more towards race breeds and therefore the lower rolling resistance is preferable.

I ride with 1.8s, which are good for cutting through the mud and getting to the grippy stuff underneath. I have found that, using the Panaracer Fire XC, I tend to lose grip on trea roots and rocks. This may, however, be due to the 45psi that I have my tyres at.

There is a fashion at the moment to mix tyre widths, so that you have a 2.1 at the front, for those pesky roots and rocks, ensuring good grip where it matters and a thinner tyre, like 1.8, at the back to ensure that your drive wheel cuts through the crud. Best of both worlds, although I have yet to try this myself.

But overall, depending upon tyre pressure and compound, 1.95 should be fine.

Luck
