mountain bike cannondale prophet
info on the cannondale prophet frame?

i wanna buy the 06 model cannondale prophet frame. im not sure if its the 4000, 2000, or 1000 model ..they all look the same to me … i read some reviews..alot of ppl have very good reviews and it seems pretty good that it is an adjustable all mountain bike. The one review that worries me is that someone said that there is not much ground clearance and that the bike and pedal arms are too low for an off road bike? if anyone has rode it specifically as a freeride bike please give me your input or if anyone knows anything about this frame so i dont make a mistake and get something that is a waste of money..or on the other hand i lose out on a good deal
thanks:)

I’d check out the reviews on sites like http://www.mtbr.com , http://www.ridemonkey.com , and http://www.pinkbike.com .

The frame for all of those is the exact same frame…..the numbers are just different trim lines like what you find with automobiles. The more expensive ones have better components and forks, but they use the same frame. As far as bottom bracket height, a lower bb means better high speed cornering and maneuverability most of the time…..of course it also means a bit lower ground/rock clearance. It’s not a huge deal to most people. When changing bikes you’ll have to adjust to it, but you can always just ride properly and time your pedal strokes or sit horizontally for a moment. Proper rear shock settings are important, too. In my experience, most people that have problems with lower bottom bracket heights also have very poor form on the bike when it comes to cornering and aggressive riding. Occasionally it does matter, however.

I’ve ridden a friend’s Prophet but I honestly can’t remember a thing about it. lol. It was tricked out with the carbon Lefty and a very nice bike, I just can’t recall anything meaningful about how it handled on the trail.
