Mountain Bike Carbon Handlebars
Whats the best way for me to drop some weight off of my mountain bike?
I’m looking for the easiest way to drop some good weight off of my hardtail. Besides switching the frame, whats the next best weight saving options? Wheels are pretty expensive but an option. What about carbon seatpost, handlebars??
I would start by checking the tires. Tires go from 400 to 800 gr each, and rims are a bit lighter. So going from a 800 gr tire to a 500 gr makes a big difference in a rotating part, and probably not too expensive (if you exchange rims, beside the rim you need to buy to have the wheel rebuilt).
About which tire to choose, it depends on what terrain and weather you ride, but search for some light tires.
About carbon handlebar and seatpost, it depend a lot on your budget. If you want a light and strong seatpost, look no further than Thomson, probably they make the best ones. They are aluminium, but they are very light. They’re sort of the benchmark for that.
But I do think that the biggest difference are tires and wheels. But it just depends on your budget for wheels.
