Mountain Bike Cargo Rack
What is the “SPRING” for on Bicycle rear mounted cargo racks?
Im looking to buy a bike rack for my mountain bike. Some of them say “With Spring” others say “Without Spring”. What on earth is this spring used for? Are there perks/disadvantages to it? Thanks
I can get a particular spring rack for half the price of the same non-spring rack. I’ll assume I CAN use bungee’s with this spring rack the same way I can with a non spring? I probably wont utilize the spring at all since I just plan on mounting metal baskets to the side and maybe a small Topeak trunk bag up top..

Many of the racks are hinged, and ‘clamp” down on anything put between the two sections. To be honest the clamps and spring system never worked well. Bungie chords work better! Or the clamps with bungies would work o.k. too!. In my mind a standard flat rack with chords, or attaching a large stainless steel basket to it would be superior to the old style ‘hinged / spring’ rack.
