Are Men And Women Able To Agree On Anything?
It’s almost miraculous that men and women can get along at all, much less live together. They are so different, it sometimes seems like there is nothing they can agree on.
The makers of TV shows know all about these differences and have learned how to use them in the making of television series. Their writers make characters that have some qualities that appeal to women and other qualities that appeal to men. While a man may identify with a tough leading man, his wife will follow the plot because she sees his sensitive side. While it looks like the man and woman are watching the same show, they are really seeing different things.
In their daily lives, however, it’s not as simple as that. Often it’s a matter of give and take. Men have to tolerate women’s quirks and women have to tolerate those of men. For example, there aren’t many men who are overjoyed to see an expensive new vase on the living room shelf. Home decor accents just don’t do much for most men.
Women often shake their heads in bewilderment when their husbands go out and buy a homelite chainsaw just because one branch of a tree needs cutting. They’ll use the saw once and then it will sit in the garage for years. What women don’t understand is that the man has been dying to work with a chainsaw and can’t resist the opportunity when it comes.
When you look at it in the right way, it can only make you smile. Men and women can’t live without each other largely because of their differences, not in spite of them. They say that opposites attract, not repel. That’s because opposites complement one another.
Then there are the many times when women and men can enjoy the same activities together equally. A Schwinn mountain bike is as appealing to an outdoors loving woman as it is to a man who loves the outdoors. A nice ride on a mountain trail has an appeal for both men and women.
They may like different aspects of a bike ride on a bumpy mountain track, but they enjoy the trip together nonetheless. While the man might race at breakneck speed on the downhill slopes, the woman might stop to pick a flower and put it in her hair. At the end of the day, though, they sit down together and share their adventures together.
Of course, it’s not all so black and white. There’s a mixture of male and female in all of us. Sometimes it’s the girl who wants to speed down the hill while the guy stops to take a photograph of the horizon. That’s the beauty of differences. They add dimensions to life that nothing else could.
