I need to buy a mountain bike that can ride harsh trails with roots and drops any good bikes under 600 $?

You get what you pay for. If you’re serious about riding harsh trails with roots, drops etc. be smart and get a bike that’s designed for that style of riding. All major manufacturers make the right bike for your riding conditions. Go to your local bike shop and ask those questions, believe it or not most shops actually know a lot about the bikes they sell and will help match you to the right one at the price you can afford. Among the major brands, all have quality bikes so keep your options open, even if it means spending a few more dollars. Many good bike shops allow you to actually ride the bike before you buy so keep that in mind.
