Mountain Bike Etiquette
Highest Gear making clicky noise on Rocky Mountain Edge?
I have a Rocky MOuntain edge mountain bike and there are three BIG gears and seven smaller gears making a total of 21 usable modes. Any gear that uses the largest BIG gear makes a clicky noise when used. I am trying to sell my bike and want it to be in good condition when I do, so Im asking how I can fix it myself, or how much it costs to get fixed. this way I can decide whether to deduct this from my asking price or get it fixed. Any input on bike-selling etiquette is also welcomed.
Thanks
Harold
No need to discount the price. Just adjust the front derailleur so that the clicking noise disappears.
Here’s a good link on derailleur adjustment: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=75 Scroll about 1/2 way down the page and review the discussion of setting the limit screws. This will likely solve the problem.
As for selling etiquette, I’m big on full disclosure–tell potential buyers what has worked well for you on the bike, what you’ve upgraded and replace, and what items (if any) have been problems. Let them look the bike over thoroughly. If you let them test ride it, be sure to hold something of value (driver’s license etc.) to minimize the chance they’ll ride off into the sunset.
