Why Cycling In Europe Is Something You Should Do In Your Lifetime

It is quite common for tourists to take biking trips all over Europe. In fact, biking in general is popular in Europe. The locals like to ride bikes-depending on where you are-and are impressed when they see tourists cycling in Europe. Some places are known as the biking city, such as Ferrara Italy. The great thing about biking through Europe is all of the sites you will see, smells you will encounter, people you will meet, and little shops or markets you may encounter along the way.

There are a few things you should keep in mind when planning your biking trip through Europe. Although the experience can be fun and rewarding in many respects, it does take a lot of preparation.

First, bicycling for an extended period of time-often five or more hours a day, and anywhere from seven to thirty days- can be physically straining if you are not use to it. Before you plan a trip, prepare yourself by taking long bike rides in your area for a couple months, and make sure you are in shape.

Next, decide what kind of bike you want to use on your trip. If you are not an experienced biker, a mountain bike is probably your best choice. Mountain bikes have thicker wheels and provide better traction on gravel and dirt roads. They do slow you down because they are heavier than a tour bike, but they are more versatile for all situations. On the other hand, tour bikes are lighter and easier to ride on cobblestone.

Determine where you want to go, when the best time of year to bike is, and how much lodging/food/flight tickets will cost. There are many websites that offer cycling packages and do a lot of the planning for you. They can help you decide where you want to go and how long you want to go for. In some countries, it is better to bike in the winter, or when it is cooler. It is not very enjoyable to bike when it is ninety plus degrees outside.

Plan your detailed route and what you will do each day. Some people like to be spontaneous when they travel, and others like to make plans. It is best to plan each day and where you will be sleeping each night because you may find it difficult to find a place last minute. And if you are on a bike, it can be frustrating.

Decide if you want to bring your bike from home or if you want to buy a bike when you arrive. Bringing your bike from home is the best bet because you are familiar and comfortable with your original bike. If you buy a bike when you arrive, the unfamiliarity with it can cause mishaps and unneeded frustration. Bring a bike that you have been using for a while and know how to fix if you need to.

There is a plethora of articles and websites available online for you to discover and research cycling in Europe. It is a great thing to experience in your lifetime. The benefits are wonderful as no amount of money can equal the experiences you come across through bike traveling.
