Getting Fit In The Great Outdoors

If all you’re looking for is muscle growth or a general workout, then going to the gym is fine. Many people, however, feel like gyms don’t give them the kind of exercise they really want. These people crave the outdoors and the thrills that come from outdoor activities. These types of people often lose interest in going to the gym.

Even if you’re not one of the lucky ones who lives near a national park or even a large city park, you can still find time for the outdoors. You don’t have to wait until your vacation comes and you can escape to the wilderness. However you can do it, make sure you can get outdoors regularly.

One way that city dwellers and suburbanites can enjoy the feeling of being outdoors is on a bicycle. There’s a great feeling of exhilaration racing down a hill after the challenge of a steep hill climb, whether it’s on a backwoods trail or a back street in the city. A Schwinn mountain bike or other MB, often has 24 gears and disc brakes, making it possible to climb the steepest hill or stop on a dime.

Of course, there are dangers associated with riding mountain bikes, both in the city and in the country. In the city, you always have to watch for traffic. It would be mad not to wear a helmet while riding a bike of any description in the city.

Most bicycle fatalies are caused by head injuries. If you like black, buy a black helmet and if you like white or any color of the rainbow, get one of those. The color doesn’t matter, just the protection.

That’s as true for offroad as it is on the city streets. If you fall off a mountain bike at any speed, you can get a serious or even fatal head injury if you’re not wearing a helmet. If you’ve got a helmet, though, you can ride your mountain bike with abandon, knowing your head is safe.

If the idea of riding a mountain bicycle doesn’t grab you, there’s always hiking or rock climbing. If you take up either of these activities, your footwear is important. Hikers should wear sturdy boots with good soles for traction. Rock climbers wear specially designed shoes that cling to the foot and have sticky rubber soles for gripping the rocks on steep slopes.

Do whatever it takes to get outdoors. There is no better way to get physically, mentally and emotionally fit than vigorous outdoor exercise.
