How To Make Choosing a Bike Stress Free

In the last couple of decades a major shift has been happening in transportation. Cars have long been the most likely mode of transport in developed countries, however bikes are beginning to rise in popularity. Perhaps this because the last couple of decades have seen a major shift in the popularity of “living green.” Maybe it is because the cost of gas is just too high. The fact is there are plenty more cyclists on the road now than there were just a few years ago. Have you been thinking about getting a bicycle? If this is the case it is important you know what to look for, the following tips will help you in your quest to find a suitable bike.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is the cost of the bike. This doesn’t mean other things aren’t important, like where you are going to ride or how often you will, but it does mean that the cost of the bicycle should be one of your main concerns.

You can find bicycles that range in price from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars. This doesn’t mean you are going to have to spend thousands of dollars on a good bike, because there are ways you can find a great bike for a great price. You could check out bicycles that are being auctioned off and could save tons of money while getting the best bike for you.

For a road bike you should take away 9″ from the inseam measurement you took earlier. The size of the tires a road bike uses are the reason for this. Designed to work best on concrete pavements, road bikes are best suited to cycling around the city. You will want to subtract 12″ for a mountain bike. Again this is to account for the size of tires. Mountain bike tires are thicker than road bike tires, designed for rocky terrain. It is possible to use mountain bikes for city cycling although this is not what they are best suited for.

You also need to acquire some safety gear. The new bicycle helmets look and feel nothing like the old bicycle helmets. They are now designed to offer better protection while looking a bit better, as well. You should never go for a ride without putting on your helmet first. This little thing can mean the difference between life and death.

It wouldn’t hurt to also get some elbow and knee pads, and some wrist and ankle guards if you are going to take your bike off-road. If you are going to be using your bicycle as your sole means of transportation, you should think of investing in some pants clips as well. These clips are designed to keep your pants from getting caught up in the gears and the chain.

You should keep these things in mind when you go out and buy a bicycle, especially if you want to find the one that is right for you. There are tons of varieties of bicycles, as well as innumerable amounts of accessories available to you, so sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming. Take your time and do some research and you’ll find the right bike before you know it.
