What’s a good bike for a great price? ?
I haven’t had a decent bike in five years. Last one I had was a Gary Fisher mountain bike. Was only 900 retail at the time. The bike was actually a little small for me. I want another mountain/trail bike but have less money now. I’m also interested in the new 29er’s they have now. I’m 6’3 so I like the bigger wheels. I’m ok with a hard tail and want some suspension upfront. I stopped by my only local bike shop and they sell “specialized” brand bikes. The new 29er in there is 600 bucks. Is this a good bike and good deal? I like the look. Just need to ride it. Any other suggestions?
I’ve had good experiences w/ Specialized bikes. My road bike was like 15 years old and still rode great. I think my friend has the same bike and seems to like it. It probably has the lower end components, but I don’t think that matters if you aren’t riding serious miles and don’t mind the occasional tune up. I’ve also heard good things about the bikes REI sells with their Novara brand. I had one of their road bikes and it was better than my Kona which was $300 more, so that might be an option to look into. I think their 29ers are probably pricey though. I also had a Trek 6500 which wasn’t a 29er, but I wasn’t too impressed by it.
