The Importance Of Incentive Packages For Locum Doctors
Junior locum doctors in New Zealand and Australia are being tempted to work in Southland with $110 hourly rates plus perks such as free ski passes and return airfares, while permanent staff junior doctors are paid less than half that amount. The email from locum doctor recruitment agency sent on behalf of the Southland District Health Board is said to have all the details of the above offer. Southland is seeing the same medical staffing crisis it saw before.
The email says the hospital is also offering free ski passes, trips to Milford Sound, free mountain bike hire and many other fantastic benefits, as well as return airfares from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. Even for those who don’t like skiing there’s a lot that the outdoors has to offer. Brilliant activities like Surfing, mountain biking, tramping, mountain climbing and kayaking are all included in the email.
The hourly rate can still be negotiated. It was clearly mentioned by the Southland District Health Board chief operating officer that more junior doctors were needed by the hospital ASAP. Various recruitment agencies were trying to find junior locum doctors for this hospital at the rate of $110 per hour.
She dint notice the fact that the email mentioned that there would be free ski passes. The locum doctors have a better life according to the New Zealand Resident Doctors Association secretary as the permanent staff is quite neglected and not paid well. The doctors have been paid nothing more than $25 for being new and $30 for experience she said.
60 hours a week or more, permanent doctors are paid $45 an hour for extra working time. The locum offer was not even given to the Permanent staff. Southland really should cut down on locum expenses. The permanent staff could have been the locum that the town needed.
The union had offered help but the district health board was too busy dealing with things on its own. A person who was formally from the Southland Hospital junior doctor delegate highlighted the fact that there were a lot of discrepancies between the Resident Doctors Association and district health boards. Money was spent like water but no one cared for attrition in those days. The agency has confidentiality rules and that is why the managing director cannot talk about the locum doctor package promotion.
To the doctors from New Zealand and Australia the offer from Southland is too good to be true. An email, understood to be from a locum doctor recruitment agency sent on behalf of the Southland District Health Board, says it needs medical registrars from March to August and will pay $110 plus an hour. The email says it was an example of the locum adverts and reflected the roller coaster ride of medical staffing crises in Southland that were all too recurrent.
There are a lot off goodies that are involved in this offer but they also get return airfares from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. Skiing does not have to be liked by everyone to enjoy the outdoors. The email has information that says that Surfing, mountain biking, tramping, mountain climbing and kayaking will be funded.
