Stuff You Need In A Mountain Cabin
If you have an all wheel drive vehicle that can take you into a remote area, there’s nothing more refreshing than a vacation in a backwoods cabin. With a little careful pre-planning, you can have the wilderness adventure of a lifetime.
You’re going to have to think about what you’re going to eat and how much food you’re going to need to take with you. If you think that you’ll be able to live off all the fish you’re going to catch, you’ll probably be disappointed. The last thing you want to do is spend half of every day driving to the nearest town for supplies.
Start with your basic necessities. If you are going to a cabin in the deep woods, don’t expect it to have electricity. Therefore, you will mostly need to take food that doesn’t have to be refrigerated. Take a variety of canned foods, but take other non-perishables like spaghetti, too. You’ll never get tired of pasta, especially if you take a variety of sauces, too.
As for comfort foods, you can get away with many types of cheeses and other semi-perishable foods, but instead of taking bread, take a variety of dry biscuits, instead. If you like to cook, you might even consider taking corn and wheat flour and making tortillas and chapatis.
There won’t be a TV in your remote getaway. If that makes you panic, going without the boob tube for awhile will do you good. Remember that dreadnought acoustic guitar you bought awhile ago and never used? This will be your chance to use it. You can while away the hours practicing and then have singalongs in front of the fire at night.
If you own a poulan chainsaw, throw it in the car. It will really come in handy in the woods. You’ll be able to gather all the firewood you could ever want and chop it up for your nightly fires. If you want to, you can even try making a chainsaw sculpture. Just be careful, though. Chainsaws are dangerous.
Do you have a mountain bike? Be sure to take it with you, along with your bicycle helmet. When you go out riding, wear your helmet. It could save your life. If you don’t have a helmet, buy one. Instead of getting a black helmet, consider getting a high visibility helmet for that extra bit of safety.
Plan your trip around your three most important needs. First you need to think about survival. Then you need to think about recreation. Finally, there’s entertainment. If you’ve got all of those covered, you’ll have an unforgettable experience.
