What is a comfortable bicycle seat for 7 years old boy?
I bought him a brand new Columbia Trailhead mountain bike 20″ with 7 speed. But complaining about the seat. Can anybody recommend a good saddle for his age. Thankyou
It depends on what he is complaining about… A narrow saddle is nice when you are riding very fast because of how you lean forward, take weight of the saddle, and you do not get as much interference when peddling. Unless the seat is very wide I would think that unlikely for a 7yr old. The rear of the seat may not be wide enough. So his sit bones should be well centered on the rear of the saddle and not hanging over an edge.
If the saddle seems to be the proper size, you can look at getting a sprung saddle, gel, or a combination of both. These will both dampen the bumps on the road. Sprung saddle will be more durable long term… Though for a 7yr old on a 20″ that is probably not a big deal.
BTW, I recommend going into a local bicycle shop. They can help you pick the correct saddle based on your son’s body and the style of bike.
