Getting back into road cycling. Pedal suggestions?

I am getting a Cannondale six13. I had shimano spd’s on my Tomac (STOLEN!). Besides a work out, i used my bike as transportation and I like being able to walk somewhat comfortably with mountain shoes while running errands. Road shoes seem less friendly to walking. Any shoe/pedal ideas out there? Would like to know what other road cyclists think. I’ve been out of the roadie loop for several years. I notice some messengers where I live have spd’s on their road and track bikes.

I think that the key here is that you like to also use the bike as transportation. Because you use it as an all-purpose bike, you may find yourself riding in all sorts of conditions, so I think you should go with a pedal that doesn’t get bogged down with debris as often. For that reason, I’d recommend either the Time ATAC pedals or one of the Crank Bros pedals. I use Crank Bros. Egg Beaters on both my mountain and road bikes and use the same pair of Sidi mountain shoes for both bikes, because (like you) I like to be able to get off the bike and walk around for a while in town when there’s a need.

Seriously, though, I doubt you’ll be unhappy with any of the above suggestions. As long as you are using them with mountain shoes, all of them (Time, Crank Bros., SPD) should be fairly comfortable to walk around in.
