Mountain Bike Shorts Women
Any short women own a Schwinn Coronado that can give me advice?
I’m trying to get back into biking, and I’m looking specifically at a Schwinn Coronado 26″ bike. My only concern is my height — I’m 5’2″. I’d love to hear from other women who own this bike (or other Schwinn mountain/hybrid/comfort bikes and are also short and can reassure me.
I’m not looking for bike buying advice in general, btw. Just this specifically. Thanks.
Bicycle frames come in different sizes, although big box and sporting goods stores usually sell one-size-fits-all low end machines like the Coronado. These come with medium size frames to fit the average person. You’re likely to be a little stretched out on a bike like this.
The 26″ you refer to is almost certainly the wheel size, not the frame size. A medium size MTB frame would be 17-18″ (distance from center of crank to the center of the top tube). A 26″ frame is huge, suitable for someone well over 6′ tall. I’m 5’9″, and I’m comfortable on a 17.5″ MTB frame.
Consult your local bike shop for a bike that actually fits.
