What will happen with my “broken” back? Serious trainers please help me.?
40 year old runner, weightlifter (free weights), and yogi. About nine years ago, I blew an L5-S1 disc. The “sciatica” was excrutiang. My left leg was essentially useless during this time. My family doctor told me to quit running (and mountain biking). Finally, an MRI revealed enough for a great, great surgeon to do a microdiscechtomy. Within five weeks I was running and lifting.
Recently, years later, while working on a computer, driving, and only at the end of a tiring run, I develop extreme pain near my traps. My GP sent me to his specialist. The x-rays, he said, revealed that my “thoracic spine is filled with bone spurs. I also have flat feet.
I’ve ignored him, doubled my yoga and posture awareness, and begun lifting and running again. My free weight routine is from Pavel Tsatouline (Power to the People): deads, chest, shoulders, and tris/bis. Running is 3-5 miles 4 x week.
Bumping the weight on deads causes pain. I LOVE deadlifts though. Please help.
Slow down stay healthy I’ve had worst and still keep going never say never and never let anyone tell you you can’t but respect the pain its your body’s way of saying somethings wrong lets regroup.
