Garage Bike Stands – Keep Your Bike Safe and Ready to Use
What is the advantage? When you use a bicycle stand to store your bicycle it is always ready for you to use. Simply slip your bike tire out of the stand and off you go.
This makes stands a good choice for anyone who plans to ride often and it might be the best solution if you have kids who are always hopping on and off their bikes. There is no lifting so young and old alike can use a bike stand.
Another advantage of garage bike stands is they can support multiple bicycles. You can have the stand up against the wall of your garage and utilize one side of the stand (typically holds 2 or 3 bikes). Or you can have the bike stand out in the open and utilize both sides of the stand if you have more bikes.
The stand will hold the bikes far enough apart that they will not touch and get scratched or dented. If you want to further protect your bicycles from accidentally touching you can park one using the front tire for support and the next one over using the back tire, this staggers the bikes and leaves more room in between.
One recommendation is to get a bike stand with a solid and wide base as opposed to buying a folding bike stand. The folding stands have a tendency to collapse on themselves when you push your bike tire into the them. There is little advantage to a folding style bike rack as you will not typically need to fold it and store it.
Also keep in mind that if you have mountain bikes to store, that the width of the mountain bike tire is wide. Therefore be sure that the stand you purchase can accommodate a tire of at least 2 and 1/4 inches.
You will find that your bike easily stands up nicely with only part of the tire being supported.
