Mountain Bike Suitcases

Whats the best and cheapest way to travel with a mountain bike?
I know about the boxes, and travel cases but they are expensive, I was thinking of taking it completely apart then it will fit into a suitcase, I don’t plan on bringing it back and i’ll be there for 6 months.
Thanks
Ray
The mountain bike will fit into a large hard shell suitcase, I know because I did it , do it and plan on doing it again in about 2 weeks or so, You have to disconnect the rear swing arm I am amusing you have this on you would not have considered this. you can leave the cranks on, remove the front fork and handle bar, also take the tires off the rim, what I do is I put the whole wheel tire and rim in a seperate luggage.
