Mountain Bike Suspension Fork Oil

Mountain bike front suspension question – help needed!!?
Ok, this may be a silly question, but I am honestly clueless here. I have a 2005 Trek 4300, on the bottom of the front fork, there is a screw on each side (allen wrench screw). When I take it off, it is just plugging a hole. Some kind of lubricant goes in that hole I would assume since the shocks are not air shocks. Grease, oil, nothing? Any help is greatly appreciated!! The whole front of the bike makes creaking sounds when I ride trails, thinking the shocks are part of the problem.
Working with shocks isn’t trivial. Sheldon Brown has a nice step by step guide, follow the link.

Good luck.
