best bike for touring thru mountains?
requirements: smooth ride, ability t carry panniers, comfortable geometry, smooth shifting, braking etc, weight is secondary but still important. im thinking moto century elite (bikedirect)?

i did a 15000ft pass off road fully loaded (panniers front and back) and i lived to tell the tale.
mine is now set up with drop bars, shimano bar end shifters, diacompe levers, avid canti brakes, 8spd. XT/LX drive train and cranks, tubus back rack, mavic downhill rims and a lovely brooks saddle.
go for steel. get 26″ rims if you’re going anywhere off the beaten path, definately get a brooks saddle.
