Trying to Pick Between These Two Bikes…?

Hi, I’m new to bicycles and I want one for fun and exercise. I’d like a nice one but I have a pretty tight budget (200-350ish, and 350′s kind of pushing it). Anyway I’ve been looking at these two online and I’d like to know what more experienced bicyclists would recommend between these two, as they’re in my price range and they have good feedback. Also, I’m 6″4 and not sure which of these would be better suited to my height.

I’ve done some research and hear that the best thing to do is to go to a specialty shop, but that’s far out of my price range. Thanks for any help!

You can get a much better bike for your price range at a local bike shop. If anyone has implied that you can’t get a good and inexpensive bike at a shop they are lying to you.

That being said, you won’t get a dual suspension bike at the price you want to spend and you shouldn’t expect it. Let me explain…

Full suspension on a bike is there for the same reason as suspension on a car- not for comfort, but to keep the wheels on the ground for better handling. In fact, the bikes you are looking at are for on on road and occasional VERY light trails only. They are not equipped or built well enough for any type of coarser trails.

Also, remember that every time you pedal a full suspension bike the frame flexes. Instead of the energy being put to the ground it gets eaten in the suspension making the bike much less efficient. Also, when you start adding stuff like suspension at that price the quality of the bike drops. They don’t give you something for nothing.

So, instead of buying a REALLY cheap full suspension bike consider going to a shop and talking with the staff about a nice hardtail ATB (all terrain bike). You’ll be very glad you did.
