Mountain Bike Trainer Tire

Mountain bike and turbo trainer question……?
Is it okay to use a mountain bike on a turbo trainer? I have a cheapish make mountain bike with your normal mountain bike tyres on it, lots of tread. Could you please tell me what sort of rear tyre I would need to have on the bike for the turbo trainer. Thanks in advance for your answers.
While you could use a knobby, it will be noisy and not very smooth. Just get a cheap tire with no thread to use on the trainer, save the knobby for off-road use. Slicks are the quietest and smoothest for trainer use will last a long time. Don’t bother changing the front and you might want to consider a riser block for the front wheel so you don’t feel like you are going downhill.
