Your Experience riding a Road Bike VS a Mountain Bike?

I have been riding my Mountain Bike for some time now, but really, only riding on paved trails and the road, so I have made the switch to a road bike. I rode one for the first time and it felt quite different than my mountain bike (the form is different). I have a little anxiety that I am not going to like it (i LOVE to bike, and go long distances). Is this a normal concern and will I get used to the different position you seem to ride in? Do people get back pains a lot? I am training for a 63 miler and a 100 miler at the end of the summer and plan to use my new road bike.

Please advise.

I got a Trek 4.5 2010 Madone! Havent been able to take my first ride yet though since it is still at the store waiting for my scheduled fitting).

I used to ride a mountain bike on the roads. I even got a set of 26×1.5 slick tires to make it more efficient. After I got my first real road bike, I never rode the mountain bike on pavement again.

When you do those 63 and 100 mile rides, look at what people are riding at the starting line. You will probably see only a very few mountain bikes, if any. There is a reason that you will see an overwhelming majority of road bikes. The road bike is the machine designed for the purpose. Using anything else is like driving nails with a rock instead of a hammer.

After the first couple of rides, you will fall in love with your new road bike. The position is designed to be both comfortable and efficient for long distances. You will find out that you will be able to do the 63 and the 100 mile rides much faster and with more energy when you’re done than if you had used your mountain bike.

Welcome to the skinny tire set!
