Mountain Bike vs. Road Bike?

I have a mountain bike, but I want to start doing races so I’m going to buy a nice road bike soon. I know mountain bikes are much slower than road bikes, but what I want to know is, what if you train with a mountain bike? Wouldn’t a heavier bike mean you’re working harder, so when you use a road bike, it will be easier?

No, you definitely want to train on what you will race on. Mountain biking will develop power but not as much endurance as road biking. They are two different types of muscle, believe it or not.
