When you stop and think about it, it’s almost a miracle that men and women can live together in harmony. They like such different things, how can they agree on anything?
Television producers are pretty clever when it comes to devising plots and characters that appeal to both men and women. They can do this because their characters are multi-faceted. A male lead may be admired by men because of his intelligence or courage, while a woman will see his more vulnerable side. They are watching the same show, but men and women are not seeing the same thing!
In their daily lives, however, it’s not as simple as that. Often it’s a matter of give and take. Men have to tolerate women’s quirks and women have to tolerate those of men. For example, there aren’t many men who are overjoyed to see an expensive new vase on the living room shelf. Home decor accents just don’t do much for most men.
Women find it equally frustrating when their husband wastes the household money she’s been so carefully saving. A tree in the backyard has one dead branch on it. Instead of cutting it off with a hand saw, he goes out and buys a homelite chainsaw for the job. After that, it just sits in the garage. The man’s ‘inner woodsman’ overrides his better judgment.
It’s all kind of a comedy, really and that’s part of the reason why men and women can’t live without each other. Life would be pretty bland if women and men had the same kinds of desires. Opposites attract because they complete each other, not because they repel each other.
That’s not to say that there are not many times when men and women are in complete agreement. An adventurous couple that loves an active, outdoor lifestyle will be in total agreement over the purchase of a Schwinn mountain bike.
