Mountain Biking Active

mountain biking active
I just started Mountain Biking and even going up a small hill …?

causes me to lose my breath and can’t catch my breath as fast as I would like and sometimes it even hurts to breath. It gets pretty bad. I just recently started doing this and before that the last time I was active in any type of sport was in jr. high i am now 22. So is it b/c im out of shape or could there be something wrong with my lungs?

Check what gear combination you are using to climb. It may make you spin too slowly or too fast. Also check your seat position. New riders tend to put their seat low, which makes riding less efficient.

Don’t feel bad. You’re a bit out of shape, at least in cardio terms. Keep riding a couple of days a week and you’ll be surprised how much better you will feel in about six weeks (maybe less time than that).

You will also get the feel of your new bike. Do you have any experienced friends? Ride with them and pick up some riding tips. It will all come together.

When I started running (or trying to run), I could not go a half a city block. I got back to where I could run a mile, then two, then three. I started running 5Ks and 10Ks and a couple of 7-mile races. When I got into cycling, I had trouble going twenty miles, even after years of running. Last year, I did my first double century (200 miles) after four years of cycling.

Slow starts make great improvements! You can do this.
