Help with linear problems?

1.Dave is out on another mountain biking expedition. He has improved his speed H up a mountain slope and it is now given by the inverse variation: H equals 600 over msquared
where m is the slope of a mountain measured in degrees.

If Dave takes 2.5 hours up a 10 mile route, what is the slope of the mountain? Round to the nearest degree.
a) 10°
b) 12°
c) 15°
d) 20°

When a spring is stretched, the length it is stretched is proportional to the force stretching it. Every spring has its own constant of variation. If spring A stretches 20cm under a force of 10lbs and Spring B stretches 12cm under a force of 8lbs, how much will they stretch when joined together and a force of 12lbs is applied? (Hint: write the equation for the direct variation.)
a) 3.5 cm
b) 35 cm
c) 42 cm
d) 84 cm

1- (2.5 hours for ten miles = 4 miles per hour
4=600/m^2
m=12.25

2- ran out of time to help on this one sorry
