Mountain Biking Fender

Bike tires in the snow?
What kind of bike tires are safe to use in snow? its not like a full plane of 6 inches, as most of it will be salted/plowed, thought there still will be a lot of slush. I was wondering if i could use my hybrid tires on my surly or if i would have to go with my mountain bike. I would just ride the mountain bike its just that its too small for me, while the surly is my size and has fenders to protect me from snow.
Ice is more of a problem than snow. Your hybrid with fenders will protect you better from slush than your mountain bike as long as the snow doesn’t pack in between the tire and the mudguard. As for grip, a narrower tire will cut through the snow and get down to the pavement better than a wider tire, but on packed snow, the wide knobby tire will grip better. I would say, if it is slushy, your Surley would be the better choice, but if the snow is packed down and it is colder, take the mountain bike.
