Mountain Biking Gila

Explain Mountain Bike Front Forks to me Please, I made mine super stiff – is that dangerous?
I have a new bicycle with RST Gila 100mm Fork on it.
Originally mine was very soft and traveled a lot, so i began spinning the adjustment knobs until the entire travel of the work is barely 5-7mm
When i was spinning the knobs to tighten the work i was hearing some strange noises coming from the fork as u tightened it harder, – is that Normal???
Also is that dangerous to have a fork tightened??? Can it shoot out of its mounting into my face???
(I do go over small bumps at quite a high speed but i prefer having my fork stiff so i can feel whats going on under the front wheel)
This is obviously a low end fork and you have adjusted the spring tension knob on the fork and dont worry it will not pop out on you and I am surprised that you got it that tight anyway. A front fork is designed to absorb the shock of repeated bumps and transfer those hits to the springs in the fork and by tightening them this far you have essentially turned a mountain bike hardtail into a pure hardtail with little to no front suspension. I would not expect that you did any immediate damage to your fork but time will tell as you ride this bike and take those hits. Worse thing that can happen is the springs can break in the housing and then you will have no fork and it will be a true hardtail! Ride it until it breaks and then you will be needing a new air assist fork!
