Which Type of Cyclist are You?

We’ve all witnessed them, the large number of different cyclists on their way to work. All wearing different cycle clothing, from suits to lycra. All riding different types of bikes ranging from streamlined road bikes to slow and steady granny bikes.

Obviously, the decision about what bike to type is all down to what you plan on using it for. A range of things have an affect on which bike you use, how far you have to travel, what you require to take with you, finally, whether or not they have showers.

The majority of people believe they use the most efficient way for getting to work. But have they made the right choice? Would it be faster to use a granny bike to get to work rather than an expensive road bike? You’d think not, however, I might be able to prove you wrong.

If you take 4 different cyclists and see how long it takes them to get from their homes to work. If we pick out 2 lycra wearing cyclists and place one on a road bike and the other on a fixed gear bike. Then take another two cyclists, one in a dress on a granny bike and the other in casual clothing on a mountain bike.

Of course many people will think that the fixed gear and the road bike will shoot off and get to work ages before the other two. This is true, they would, however, they haven’t won yet. Once these 2 arrive at their place of work, they are sweating uncontroably. So for them, you have to add on the time for a shower onto their travel time.

For the other 2, the mountain biker may have got there resonably quickly, but being still a bit sticky, a shower will be required. Finally, the easy going granny bike, it may come in last, however, the rider is sweat free. With no need to have a shower, the rider can simply walk straight into work.

So once you add up the commute time, and then plus the amount of time to ready yourself for work. The granny bike takes the victory at a steady speed. It really does go to show that slow and steady wins the race.

Next time you’re on your way to work, spend some extra time considering your travel options.
