Mountain Bikes
There are a number of different thing one can do with a mountain bike. You can ride for many different reasons, one might be for sheer fun, another for exercise and yet another might be for competition. Competition or a mountain bike race is the most popular.
There are different kinds of mountain bike races. One is called the 4X. This is a race that takes place side by side. As soon as the gate is opened, everyone heads off as fast as they can. These races take place on a track. It is fun filled complete with flying dirt. The terrain can be rough, complete with large jumps, hills and sharp turns. These races are all about keeping full control of the bike and doing it with ease.
There is the cross country mountain bike race. These are held on a variety of terrains. There are usually alot of people in this race. It could consist of many, many miles. There can be teams in cross country races but they race as individuals.
The top of a steep hill is where a downhill race starts. With downhill races the riders do not all start at the same time? There is usually between 30 seconds to 3 minutes between racers. The winner is the racer that gets to the bottom of the hill is the quickest time.
The Dual Slalom is a mountain bike race where two racers are riding against each other. There are two seperate tracks that run in parallel and are exactly the same, the first to complete the track, wins.
Lastly, there is the marathon mountain bike event. These races are usual around eightly kilometers long. These can take place over some rough land.
Stage races are yet another kind of mountain bike race. These are several races spread out over several days. Once all the racers are over the finished line, the one with the lowest overall time is declared the winner.
This is defnitely not all the different types of mountain bike races that are out there, but this will give you a good idea of what to expect.
