Mountain Biking Ventura County
Help with choosing a Bicycle.?
I don’t know much about bikes, i plan on doing some research before i make a purchase but if you guys can point me in the right direction that would be great. I live in Southern California (Ventura County) I want a bike i can ride on the streets with my Doberman Pinscher. I’m looking for something that isn’t too heavy or big but at the same time real sturdy and rugged, that could handle 200 pounds with ease. Most importantly i want the bike to be comfortable. I do take my dog to the dog park a lot and there is some mountain trails but i would rarely take my bike to the dog park so a mountain bike is not a must. Also point to some of the better brands. Thank You!

Like the answer from Edward, I would recommend a hybrid since its easiest to ride and can ride on park trails as well. Only thing I want to add is make sure you can ride confident enough on the handling, before you take your dog for a walk. You’ll have to be able to ride well with one hand, be able to do quick stops and be able to handle the bike when your dog sprints off to chase a squirrel.
Instead of thinking a bike just for walking your dog, you should ask yourself what other type of riding you would like to do? If you do see yourself riding the trails once in awhile, you may want to look into mountain bikes. If you think you might want to do dirt jumps or tricks, and never ever riding more than 2-3 miles, then perhaps BMX would fit you.
