What is a good hybrid bicycle for 300 dollars or less?
I am looking to purchase my first bicycle in a long time. I have used mountain bikes before and I am not a fan. I need a bike for riding to school as well as for leisure riding and I would eventually like to do some cross-country riding for fun. I was looking at a online shop called ‘Bicycles Inc’ and read some of the things about the differences between the various bike types (mountain, road, hybrid, classic or casual I think) and it sounds like a hybrid bike has the features that I really want (comfort, speed, drive-ablitiy on roads and sides walks and such.) So I am just wondering what everyone recommends. I am looking for something that is maybe a little more than 300 but certainly less than 300.
$300 is a pretty limited budget for a bicycle, but I think you can do it with some know-how.
I would first recommend checking out www.bikesdirect.com. What they do there is take a no name frame and put really decent parts on the bicycle. You are not paying for a name brand markup, you are simply paying for the materials. It’s a really great site and I know a number of cyclist friends that have purchased bikes from there.

The other thing I might recommend is looking for a used Kona Dew (of some kind– Dew, Dew Plus, Dew Deluxe, Dr. Dew, Dew Drop, Dew FS etc etc) in the right size. It’s one of the best all around hybrid/commuter bikes out there. Check craigslist and ebay.
