i have a omega quest 24wheel size mountain bike i my chain protecter the plastic thing by the petals to protect the rider from getting cut wwll my shoe lace gets caught in the chain so can i get a new one since my old one broke off or can u not buy one?
I had the same thing happen to one of my bikes. No, I could not find a match. Most “chainrings” as they are called, come without the chainguard ring. Only the low priced bikes have those plastic rings. 30 years ago, they were made of chromed steel, but now they are all plastic.
The high quality racing bikes don’t have chainguard rings (they never did) , they expect you to be wearing shorts. The guard is to keep your pants leg from getting caught, not your shoelaces. Keep your shoelaces tied tight, because they could get wrapped around the pedal spindle, just as easily.
You can do one of three things to keep your pants from catching the teeth of the chainring:
1)Tuck the right leg of your pants into your right sock.
2)Wear shorts.
3)Get a reflective leg-band at the local bicycle shop. It attaches with velcro and holds your pants cuff so it doesn’t get caught in the chain.
Finally, you might want to remove the screws that held the plastic in place. They are not needed anymore.
