What my next upgrade?

I have a Giant CRX4W which came with Shimano Altus 24 spd EZ FIRE +, triple crankset, Shimano cassette, HG 50. I have recently purchased mountain bike shoes and clipless pedals. As I’ve improved my skills and stamina, I wonder should I buy a road bike? I cycle with a group that goes on 60 km rides. I’m keen to improve still. Would a change of components on my current bike work?
Thanks for all your advice. I should have said that it is a flat bar road bike [entry level]. I don’t go off road. I bought it just for exercise, to stay fit, but have become more interested than I expected, so find myself riding regularly with keen riders.

The next step would be a road bike. You could try thinner tires and get a set of drop bars ends, that will give you about 1 1/2 mph more for the same effort. It takes twice as much power to ride at 20 mph as it does to maintain 15 mph.
