Shimano Mountain Bike Platform Pedals

shimano mountain bike platform pedals
on SPECIALIZED, road and mountain bike pedals.?

For mountain, I’m riding a 2006 Specialized Rockhopper Pro. I’ve been riding the stock platform pedals since i bought it in 07, and really like being able to put my feet down and ride lose. Any suggestions for a SPD combination pedal? (so i can pedal more efficiently and have the platform option as well)

Also, i just got an 09 Specialized Langster, which came with a decent pair of toe-clip pedals (baskets). I’m looking at Shimano a530′s to replace these. Any thoughts on these?

Bicycling.com has always recommended the Forte Campus pedals, which are made by Performance Bike. I have the Shimano PD-M324 and like them a lot. I actually just switched over to the Shimano A-520 (similar to the 530′s you asked about), and have to say that I like the PD’s better. I find the second ones much harder to clip into, and one of them is really hard to release even on the loosest setting. I also like the ability to not be clipped in on one foot if you know you are going to have to stop a lot, or may have to stop suddenly and need to get a foot down fast, so I think the two-sided pedals are better when riding in conditions that necessitate not being clipped in all the time.
