Review Of The Kona Dew City Hybrid Bike

The Kona Dew City is an incredibly economically-priced Kona bike from their Dew range of hybrids. All these street hybrid bikes represent great value. The manufacturer is well respected, and Kona style is known the world over.

The Dew City is principally directed towards street riding – to work and back say. However like any good hybrid it will also take you out on the lanes at the weekend. The most important features for hybrid bike users is that the bike should be comfortable and convenient to ride. The bike should be equally at home on the road and on towpaths and trails. The Kona Dew City appears to deliver on all these fronts.

It’s aluminium-framed, using 7005 alloy, butted for strength. The nicely sloped top tube gives you greater standover clearance and means that the model is unisex. The paintwork is a smart black, finished with eye-catching graphics.

It features 700mm road wheels and uses Kona’s own design Project 2 aluminium fork. Road bike wheels will obviously deliver great rideability on the tarmac – which is where most of it’s riding will be done. This is a hybrid bike after all, not a mountain bike. The rigid aluminium fork is both lightweight and simple.

The frame and fork have fittings for mudguards though – essential in a commuting bike.

It’s fitted with a triple chainset – good for flexibility and ease on hills and for distances.

Other features include:-

  • 21 gears with useful ratios, from basic Shimano components. The EZ Fire shifters are great to use. Changing gear is simplicity itself. There are two clickable levers, one for thumb and one for forefinger, up or down.
  • Powerful and simple Tektro V-brakes.
  • Kona Comfort saddle, flat pedals and wide 35mm tyres. A practical, usable bike. The 35mm tyres are wide enough to absorb road vibration, but narrow enough to have low rolling resistance. Most people will find flat pedals the best option. they can always be changed for cleats at a later date of course.
  • Priced very competitively.

The Kona Dew City offers a very attractive package of basic but sound specifications at a price that will appeal to a wide range of cyclists.
