Montague 20 Paratrooper Military Folding Mountain Bike $799 Since the 1980s, Montague has provided full-size folding bicycles to various divisions of the military. In 1997, under a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Montague partnered with the US Marines to develop the Tactical Electric No Signature (TENS) Mountain Bike. For this project, Montague developed a new folding frame design called the X-Series™, integrating the F.I.T.™ system into the frame design. The non-electric version of the TENS Mountain Bike, named The Paratrooper®, became available shortly thereafter. The F.I.T.™(Folding Integrated Technology) system was developed to allow a full-size, high-performance mountain bike to fold in half so that it could fit through the cargo door of a military aircraft with a paratrooper. When the soldier would hit the ground, he or she would have a tactical mountain bike to use as transportation, thereby bridging the gap between walking and deploying heavy military vehicles. This would not only aid in transportation but it would help to facilitate battlefield reporting as well. The Paratrooper® is a full-size mountain bike that can traverse terrain silently at high speeds with no thermal or acoustic radar signature – key components when trying to avoid the enemy. The Paratrooper® offers up to 500 pounds of load hauling capability and it does not need gasoline. It has enhanced off-body load bearing capabilities, a high level of maneuverability, and can compact to a portable size in less than 30 seconds. The bikes are indeed used in conjunction with LAV’s (Light Armored Vehicles) and HMMWV’s as back up transportation and they also help to facilitate battlefield reporting. It became clear that the folding technology found on bikes developed for the U.S. Military could be used in the civilian world as well, as these bikes began turning up in car trunks, closets, and a host of other places where conventional non-folding bikes could not fit. By popular demand the military bikes made their way into civilian use. Tough, rugged, and ready for anything, this mountain bike is dropped from the sky to land prepared for action. The speed of unfolding this bike for riding will blow you away. No tools required to fold and stash in your Humvee. The Paratrooper® comes equipped with front suspension, 24-speed EZ Fire Plus® shifters, a compass and heavy duty double cage aluminum pedals to tackle the roughest terrain. Best New Games Book (Copyright 2002, 232 pages) $22.95 Since the early 1970s, proponents of the New Games movement have been using cooperative, interactive games to bring diverse groups of people together. In Best New Games, Dale Le Fevre shows you how to lead, develop, and adapt New Games for any group. This complete resource is the only book now available that presents New Games. New Games are for groups of all ages and abilities — and they’re meant to be played just for fun. Developed during the Vietnam War era, New Games were created to encourage people to channel their aggressive tendencies in a creative, powerful, fun, and safe way. In 1974 the New Games Foundation was incorporated, and it spread the idea of New Games through hundreds of training workshops in North America and beyond. New Games may include competition, but having fun with a New Game is more important than winning it. The games can be adapted for people who are physically and mentally impaired or mentally ill. New Games have been played with people of all different abilities and backgrounds — often in the same group. Author Dale Le Fevre is a leading authority on New Games. In many of his workshops, traditionally adversarial groups have successfully come together to play and have fun: Arabs and Israelis in the Middle East; Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland; mixed races in South Africa; and Serbs, Croats, and Muslims in Croatia and Serbia. In Best New Games, Le Fevre presents the most popular New Games from more than 25 years of presenting, including many recently found games. The book features 180 illustrations, 84 games, and 7 trust activities. An easy-to-use Gamefinder helps you quickly find the ideal game for your particular situation by listing games according to space and equipment requirements, appropriate times to play the game, activity levels, skills developed, number of players, and social purpose. The author also provides tips to give you confidence and increase your effectiveness in leading the games, including instructions on adapting and creating games. In Best New Games you’ll find games to address a variety of social objectives: Breaking the ice Helping people get acquainted Fostering sensitivity and trust Building teamwork Best New Games is a great resource for anyone involved with groups — at any level and in any setting. It is a rich mine of entertaining activity ideas for elementary classrooms, after-school programs, physical education programs for all ages, college orientations, religious youth groups, r |

Games Approach to Coaching Basketball Video (Copyright 2000) (VHS) $25.95 Discover a revolutionary and superior way to coach! Games Approach to Coaching Basketball shows you how to use this new approach to help 6- to 14-year-old athletes learn game skills and tactics more effectively than with the traditional drills-first, play-later approach. The games approach begins with kids playing the game. As they play, they learn and appreciate the skills and tactics needed to play the game successfully. Games are modified to strengthen individual technique and team play. Kids have more fun and are more motivated to practice in these small-sided games rather than standing in boring drill lines. Games Approach to Coaching Basketball clearly demonstrates how to: modify games to focus on particular skills and tactics; adjust the difficulty depending on your athletes’ needs; assess players as they play; actively involve players in the learning process; and teach and refine basketball skills and strategies. This video is part of the Games Approach to Coaching video series, which is composed of four videos that will teach you how to incorporate the games approach into four sports — baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. About the Editor Since 1981 the American Sport Education Program has provided educational opportunities for more than 625,000 coaches, parents, and sport administrators through its multilevel curriculum. |
