Cycling Clothing Can Keep You Safe and Warm

The fact that there is specific cycling clothing indicates that it has a definite purpose and benefit to the wearer and is not just a fashion item.  Some of the cycling clothes available are fashionable but this is not the main reason for wearing.  Cycling, whether it is city cycling or off-road,  presents some hazards and the right clothing  can help to protect cyclists while out on a ride.  It is important to consider the style of cycling that you will be undertaking and then make a decision on which cycling products would be of benefit to you.

One of the most important things for any cyclist is to ensure that they are seen on the road.  With cars, buses and other vehicles capable of moving at a far faster pace, it is crucial that cyclists are visible.  A good way of doing this is to wear fluorescent clothing or at least add some high visual elements to your clothing.  Depending on the weather, a cyclist wearing dull clothes may blend into the road and surroundings for a driver, which is where danger can occur.  Jackets, hats, shorts or even reflector strips can all be bought, bringing an added element of safety for any cycler.

Another good reason to buy specialist cycling clothing is because it can get cold and wet when cycling.  After all, car drivers are fully encased within their vehicle but a cyclist is exposed to the elements.  If the conditions are windy, cold or raining, it can be fairly uncomfortable for any cyclist.  Waterproof clothing is essential in the rain to help maintain a good level of temperature and to prevent the skin from being soaked.  Equally, thermal clothing or layering is a great way to offset a low temperature, which could cause discomfort to a rider.

One of the other benefits of wearing specialist cycling clothing comes in the added safety and protection.  First of all, if you are cycling for a long distance, sitting on the saddle can become uncomfortable after a while.  Many cycling shorts provide padding to take some of the pressure off the cyclist and helping them to enjoy the journey.  Equally, knee-pads and crash helmets are essential to minimise the damage if an accident does occur when cycling.  Taking proper care of yourself on the road is crucial for every cyclist and wearing protective clothing can make a big difference in staying safe.

Wearing the proper cycling clothing will help you not only enjoy riding your bike but also ensure you are safe, whether you are looking for lightweight cycling jerseys or cycling shoes made to grip the pedals.
