Mountain Bike Derailleur Guard

My rear derailleur on my mountain bike is making noise…?
I have a giant yukon mountain bike and when I go over bumps it’s either my chain or rear derailleur makes noise. It sounds like maybe the chain is slapping the chain guard on the frame? The slapping noise is annoying how can fix this? new better brand rear derailleur? Thnaks! I will vote on a best answer. Thanks!
The rear deraileur is a shiman deore and the front is a shimano acera
You have what is called “chain slap”. Yes, it is a real term. And yes it is annoying. And no, don’t replace the rear derailer unless absolutely necessary. Deore is the entry level for real mountain biking and it works decently. The front derailer has no impact on the chain slap whatsoever. I have a cheap 11 year old Shimano SLX front derailer that works perfectly so just leave it alone.
1. If the rear derailer is shifting well leave it on the bike. Often they have a “B” tension screw. This can be adjusted a little and *might* help. See links below for a thorough explanation and method of adjustment.
2. As previously stated, put something over the chainstay. My favorite is an inner old tube zip tied in place. Simple, cheap, and a good reuse of what would otherwise be trash. If you don’t have a dead tube, most bike shops will be willing to give you an old dead one no problem. Just cut to size.
BTW, another great reuse of old tubes is as a shock cover, especially coil spring types if you can get it over the spring. I have an 11 year old rear shock and everyone is amazed because they always got dirty and blew seals. But because of this home made shock cover I have never needed to even rebuild the shock.
